Statement

New Condo City' (2021) is an interactive sculptural installation of a dystopian condo cityscape. Made out of sandwich board advertisements for actual Toronto condos (the kind that block sidewalks all over the city), New Condo City is a scathing yet humorous commentary on the housing crisis and over-development of Toronto.


Bio

Stephanie Avery is a Toronto-based multi-disciplinary artist and mischief-maker. Often incorporating elements of play, humour and absurdity into her practice, Stephanie intervenes with familiar spaces, objects and imagery to produce new meanings and narratives. Her goal is to inspire alternative perspectives and initiate dialogue about elements of contemporary culture that are often taken for granted.
